London and its places of interest

I was to visit London to transact some business. My supplier I have been with for the past 10 years invited me. I went to two other European countries, France and Holland for the same purpose. I was happy that I was to visit the City because I have read so much about it and wanted to know if all that I read during my school days were true. I wanted to see a lot of London so I booked two different hotels for my stay. A week in Russell Square and a week in London Victoria.

I arrived at the Heathrow international Airport on British airways and after going through the immigration formalities, I took a mini cab and was taken straight to the Tavistock hotel on Tavistock Square in Russell square. You will get many good standard hotels in Russell Square Bloomsbury district.

I realised why a lot of tourists like the place. I myself fell in love with it the very day I was there. I just took my street map and just stepped out of the hotel to start the Central London tour. I was so happy with what I saw in London because it was not different from what I thought of it. I first visited the British Museum which I understand has over 7 million items from all over the world and also visited British Library all in Russell Square. I moved from the British Museum to the Covent garden and found a lot of street performers as I have read in books.

For the rest of the week at Tavistock hotel London, I visited the West end area. A visit to west End would not have been a complete one without visiting Oxford Circus and Marble Arch. I came to realise that the Leicester square is not Theatreland just for the sake of it. the whole area is full of Theatres. From Leicester Square, I proceeded to Piccadilly Circus and found the place to be very busy and exciting. I paid a visit to the shopping streets in the West End area on my 5th day and was surprised to see that the place was so dense with shoppers and other tourists. The Bond street, the Regent street and the Oxford Strret are very busy shopping streets but I found the Oxford Street to be the busiest. The China Town and the Soho were just off the Oxford Street so I took the opportunity to vist the area.

I went to stay in Victoria area in my second week as booked through Cheap London hotels agency. The Landmarks close to Victoria enticed me to book to stay there for one week. I saved the best for the last. I was in Buckingham Palace the very day i arrived at Victoria to witness the changing of the guard. I was so anxious to visit the Tower clock also called the Big Ben for what I have read. The Big Ben is just at the same location as the Houses of Parliament. I also took a trip to the Westminster Abbey at the Parliament Square. Finally, I went to have a look at the London Eye. It is a fantastic piece of architecture. The London ey will continue to be one of the best Landmarks in London for quite sometime. I enjoyed my stay in Central London and I would like to stay in the cheap hotels in Russell square as they have good accommodation standard but lower rates.

Holidays Abroad are Still in Downfall

As the whole world is aware, we are in one of the biggest credit crunch's that we have seen for a vast amount of time and the worst hit sector has been travel and things do not look like they will be getting better anytime soon.

A vast amount of people are still booking their breaks in the UK, which leads them to abandon their overseas destinations which could result in a huge amount of cheap holidays. People are cutting back a huge amount, because they know that the pound has become very weak compared to other currencies.

But things are actually not looking too bad as bookings have risen in countries such Turkey because of the all inclusive aspect. On another occasion self catering accommodation is still down a huge amount, so you could potentially look at grabbing a late deal bargain.

Again things are not all bad, because huge amounts of money are being pumped back into the UK economy, with caravan and UK family holidays being booked up in the dozen. Some places are even over booked.

Although costs are still currently minimal for late overseas destination bookings, authorities warn that "The consumer that books late is taking a gamble that flight prices to the Western Med will remain low but there is a risk that these seat prices will sky rocket in June.”

So if you are actually looking to take a break this summer time then I would look at booking it soon as prices could potentially rise in an instant.

A guide to French lighthouses

Lighthouses in France stand as wonderful testaments to the country’s seafaring tradition. Although many are now sadly beginning to look shabby, their design and cultural importance make them a must-see for visitors to France. France’s lighthouses are little-known cultural treasures that hark back to a largely forgotten era of Gallic endeavour . All over the French coast, the lighthouses - or phare as they are called in France - have weathered the worst that the Channel and the Atlantic Ocean can throw at them for decades, and in some cases centuries. These striking structures punctuate the skyline around the coastline, forming a marvellous network of guiding lights originally designed to protect the lives of French seamen and ensure the integrity of the nation’s shipping lanes. Some of the most imposing lighthouses can be found in Brittany, and on the tiny Île D’Ouessant just off the mainland. A rocky, wind-battered tranche of land that’s only 5km by 8km long, the island is houses a number of truly breathtaking historical lighthouses, both onshore and off. Encircled by fierce currents and deceptive outcrops of hidden rocks, the island has claimed many lives over the centuries, making its lighthouses of essential practical importance for shipping navigation through this dangerous area. The lighthouses in Brittany are some of the most impressive to be found anywhere in France. From the small, square Phare de Kermorvan with its rugged stone balustrades to the simple yet robust sophistication of the Phare du Petit Minou, the Île D’Ouessant showcases some truly amazing feats of engineering and practical architecture. The lighthouses are even more magnificant when one considers that most were built in the early years of the nineteenth century, when design techniques were nowhere near as advanced as they are now. The fact that these structures are still standing in the face of such severe weather conditions is a credit to the skill and tenacity of the men who built them. Reaching the Île D’Ouessant is quick and easy - just catch a Zeebrugge channel ferry to France and travel to Brest in Brittany. There the twice a day ferry will take you over to the island for a very modest fee. Once there, you can explore the island on foot or by bike, taking in the unique sights of these commanding silent guards.
