If you want to see some big wild animals then go on holiday to the Masai Mara

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

The thing with going on safari here is that you will be able to see the “Big Five”. The name Big Five was originally coined by hunters because these animals were supposed to be the hardest game to hunt and find.

The proud pride owner the Lion. The Lion is but only the second largest of the Big Cats, but Tigers aren’t present in the Mara. Lions in general are keystone predators which means they hunt and take down their own food, rather than scavenge, although if the opportunity arises they will take it. The Lion however has in some instances become a man eater, they have been seen on occasion to actually stalk Man as prey.

The ever majestic African Elephant. These massive beasts weigh an impressive average of about 5 and half tonnes and can reach over 3 metres tall. When you see an elephant its quite easy to accept its large, but when you think even it’s 4 teeth are each twelve inches long and weigh 5 kilograms, it’s a lot more to take in. Their tusks grow up to 2 and a half metres long, that’s just under the average ceiling height in your house.

Then there is the Cape buffalo. The quite spectacular thing about this buffalo is that although they are lion prey, they are very successful at defending themselves, in some cases even killing lions. The Cape buffalo is regarded as one of the most dangerous animals in Mara; it is a very short temper and is reported to have killed about 200 people every year.

The Black Rhinoceros. The Black Rhino has not been all that well named, unfortunately it was due to the name of the White Rhino that the so called “Black Rhino” received it’s own. The Black and White Rhino are so similar in colour it’s almost impossible to tell them apart by looking at their skin. White in the White Rhino’s name was actually a mistranslation of “Weit” in Dutch. This word actually means “wide” because the White Rhino had a long square like lip, whereas the Black Rhino has a pointed lip.

Finally the Leopard. The smallest of the Big Cats is what the Leopard is generally known for, and because of the Cheetah it is not really known for it’s speed. Although this cat is the smallest of the bunch, this feline can reach speeds of 36 mph and make a vertical jump 3 metres up. Swimming and climbing surrounding trees is the Leopards true forte.

So if you would like to go and see the Big Five then why not try Kenya holidays, Tanzania holidays or Zambia holidays. You will find them around these key locations.

As an alternative, he lands a job in a porno film, is befriended by its gorgeous megastar (who’s truly an “excellent gal” leading a triple life), then accidentally gets to be a star as the “expert of sex.” Some ludicrous gags, a likable leading guy, and excellent joke performances by Graham and Tomei improve this choppy feel-good flick. Jackson, Colm Feore, Monique Mercure, Don McKellar, and Sandra Oh.  (131 minutes, 1998)

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Family life is often incredibly stressful with various members of the family having fights. Over time the home of the family can develop a tense atmosphere. It is at this moment, or hopefully earlier that you should consider taking a two week vacation, afterwards, everything should return to a favorable state.  Unfortunately in in nearly all cases families are witnessing financial difficulties, so how is it possible for us to afford a family vacation?

A Few Tips For Getting A Family Vacation Bargain

The first thing to comprehend is that there are countless travel operators fighting for your custom and in the current economic climate a sale can be vital for any of these operators. This fact means that you should bag yourself a bargain by reducing the costs of the total vacation package or you can get some additional extras added for free. Another advantage to staying local is that you can keep an eye out for cheap vacation accommodation opportunities and grab them quickly. Another way to cut costs is to look out for late availability vacations and flights.

A further point to discuss is the vacation destination. Visiting another country is today is more expensive that it was only a short time ago. You might be forced to consider taking a vacation closer to home or have a shorter break. Sometimes we fail to see the beauty of places nearby due to the fact that we see them so often. Also we frequently fail to take advantage of those amenities nearest to us. From time to time the slightest mention of you reducing the amount of time spent on vacation throws the operator into panic over losing the sale and she/he will work more to cut costs.

Taking your family on vacation will allow you to spend some quality time with your family and enjoying your time together is a great stress reliever. When you return home you will very soon notice a vast improvement in family relations and the superb news is that this atmosphere will last for quite a while.

The above is a brief introduction to vacation for the family. If you believe you have something to offer why not write about it or why not begin a blog. They are situated in quiet environments feature all the comforts of home and have the added benefit of being close to nature and the great outdoors. Taking time out, and spending it in one of the many Smokey Mountain cabin rentals available means you will get quality time. Quality time is that special time where you are completely away from any day-to-day pressures.

The Smoky Mountains National Park ranks as the number 1 getaway for annual visitors in the entire USA. This is because more than half of the population of the US is able to reach the Smokey Mountains in less than a day’s drive.

If you’re worried that a trip in the secluded mountains might leave you bored—you’re wrong! There are plenty activities ranging from nature walks, golf, whitewater rafting, mountain climbing, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and even skiing (when the snowfall is good). If you aren’t out-doorsy enough to partake in a vigorous activity, why not use the peace and quiet to fulfill a hobby you enjoy, such as reading or writing?

You have a wealth of variety when it comes to choosing your accommodation in the Rockies. You can choose by type of structure, such as a rustic cottage, a log cabin, or a luxury cabin filled with all modern conveniences. You also get to choose from different settings, as well! You can find cabins located in the countryside or up in the thick of the woods, highly secluded from other cabins. The perfect cabin rental is awaiting you!

A great place to start your search for accommodation is by looking for Pigeon Forge cabin rentals. Pigeon Forge, TN is offers great access to both the Smoky Mountains and the Dollywood amusement park.

Island getaways in southern California

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Catalina Island is a rugged and beautiful part of the Channel Island archipelago located just off the southern California coast. If you live in California, then chances are – you’ve heard about it, but have never known just how accessible it really is. If you are visiting Southern California, then you should consider adding a day trip to Santa Catalina Island to your itinerary.

Catalina Island has a distinctly different feel and vibe than the rest of California, often compared to small coastal villages areas in the Mediterranean. Residents of the island are concentrated in the port towns of Two Harbors and Avalon, and are friendly and enjoy the calm pace of island living. Everything on the island is more expensive, including gas, food, and building materials, as everything must be brought in by boat or on one of the regular supply barges. Very few vehicle permits are allowed, so locals use bicycles, ATV’s and modified golf carts as their primary means of transportation, which provides a dramatic contrast to the congested freeways of nearby Los Angeles.

Upon arriving, vacationers will begin to discover a wide array of activities and a rich history and island culture. The island is not well known for some of its most interesting claims, including being home to the first golf course in California, the birthplace of modern sport fishing, home to the famous Wrigley Estate, and for its famous Bison herds, which now roam the beaches after being imported and left behind by a film production back in the 1950’s.

Most of the Island and its near-shore waters is protected by the Catalina Island Conservancy, who are dedicated to preserving and restoring the original flora and fauna, as well as protecting the wild bison herds. Catalina’s waters contain an abundance of marine life and biodiversity around its thriving reefs and in the deep channels, making it a prime destination for eco-tourists, scuba divers and biologists.

The logistics of getting to the island are very easy and require minimal effort. Getting to Catalina Island is possible by ferry, helicopter, or private charter boat. Most people opt for the ferry, which is convenient, inexpensive with a flexible schedule to and from the island. There are several Catalina ferries which run regularly year-round with extra trips during the summer months.

Most island visitors take the Catalina Express, a high speed catamaran which departs from Long Beach and makes the voyage in roughly an hour. The Catalina Flyer also makes the same trip offering service from Newport Beach. Regardless of which Catalina ferry is most convenient for you, you are almost guaranteed to enjoy stunning views of the coastline, and you are likely to be accompanied by pods of dolphins and migrating whales!
