Traveling to the Bahamas? The Bahamas is a country composed of 29 islands, and is often referred to as the home of the finest beaches in the Caribbean. You can’t argue with this claim, as the country’s economy is built largely on tourism, with thousands of Americans contributing to the country’s economic growth by flocking to this destination annually. Yes, you need a passport to visit the Bahamas.  The good news is you have two options when it comes to your travel documents for your trip to this destination. The first one, of course, is the regular US passport book. The other one is the US passport card. It should be noted that although the Bahamas is a part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), you cannot use your enhanced driver’s license to get there. You can enter the Bahamas without a visa.

Using a US passport card will enable you to enter the Bahamas. First issued on July 14, 2008, this card is the cheaper and more convenient way of having an official travel document to this destination and the other WHTI member areas. Processing periods for this card is similar to the processing of regular passport books, so make sure you apply for this card way ahead of your travel date. Currently, it takes four to six weeks to complete the routine passport processing, and two to three weeks for the expedited passport option.

Meanwhile, there’s also the regular american passport book. It is a bit more expensive than the passport card, but this provides you with greater flexibility in your international travel than the passport card. Remember that the use of passport cards is limited only to WHTI areas, so if you’re planning on traveling to countries outside of these areas, then you should apply for a passport book.

Keep in mind that you can only use a passport travel card to and from the Bahamas only if you are traveling by sea or land. If traveling by air, the use of a US passport book is recommended. For your convenience, you can also apply for both types of passports at a discount. You can then use the card for sea and land travel to WHTI areas, and your passport book for international air travel.

While your US passport would generally suffice for WHTI destinations, the Bahamas may also require additional documents when traveling to their territory. Because of that, it is best if you check with their US-based Embassy first about the exact travel documents required. Make sure you do this check well before you leave.

It’s normal to get really excited when you finally arrive at the Bahamas, especially if it’s your first time there. However, make sure everything’s safe first by registering at the US Embassy or Consulate that’s nearest you. They will provide you with travel and safety information when you visit them to register. On top of that, registering also facilitates your communication with them in case of an emergency.

How to Add Passport Pages to Your Passport

You will need to add U.S. passport pages to your US passport if you fall under either of these two categories: (1) you have less than two to four pages left in your passport, or (2) you are a frequent traveler in need of a new passport book. If you fall under one of the two, then you’ll likely want to know how to add passport pages to your current passport. Read on and we’ll show you exactly how to do it.

Let’s discuss the first category first. If you are a passport holder, and your passport has less than two to four pages in it, you’ll need to request additional passport pages. But why request pages so soon? That’s because it will save you a lot of time when you do that now, rather than when you are already about to travel.

In this situation, you will have to fulfill two requirements: your passport must be valid, and you need to fill in Form DS-4085. This form is what you’ll need to fill in if you need to request additional passport pages. Once you have filled in the DS-4085, you can then mail it to the address indicated, along with your current US passport.

You don’t need to pay anything to request for new U.S. passport pages. However, if you want to have the processing of your passport expedited, then you will have to pay for this kind of option. Keep in mind to clearly write on the envelope ‘Expedited’ to indicate what you want done with it. Also, expedited passports are only allowed to those who need to leave the US in two weeks, or those who need the passport in four weeks for their foreign visa application.

Now let’s talk about frequent travelers. If you are a frequent traveler, then chances are you use up your passport pages faster than most people. When applying for passport pages, you’ll need to go through a different procedure.

To request new passport pages, you need to send a signed letter requesting one. Along with this letter should be the completed DS-82 form. Filling in this form will allow you to send your passport application by mail. But in instances where are you ineligible to apply by mail, you’ll need to complete the DS-11 form. When using the DS-11, you will submit this form in person, along with your letter to the passport office.

When sending your passport application by mail, it is recommended that you send it using a delivery method that can be traced. All modern courier services offer this type of service already. Also remember to place your documents in a tough envelope to prevent it from getting damaged easily when mailed.
