White Water Rafting In Paradise

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Living here in far North Queensland, we are lucky enough to have some of Oz’s best white water rafting rivers all close by. In fact there isn’t anywhere else in the country that can state that they have tourist white water rafting operators doing business on 4 local rivers.

The rivers that we have close by are the Barron, Tully, Johnstone and Russell Rivers, as well as many seasonal rivers that only are accessible in the monsoon season. This definately has to make Cairns White Water rafting something unique. Both the  Barron River Whitewater rafting and Tully River Whitewater Rafting operate using whats commonly referred to as scheduled release. This is when the water is released at a scheduled time from a dam or Power Generation Station. These two are easily our most popular rivers with both full and half day tours departing daily. The Barron River has grades 2-3 rapids while the Tully has a more challenging grade of 3 to 4 and even 5 during the wet season.

The Johnstone River runs in the wettest months, but offers Heli Rafting adventure trips with up to Grade 5 rapids. This trip is quite expensive.

The Russel River offers inflatable 2 man kayaks, which is a little bit different from the more recognisable inflatable rafts, they are still loads of fun and simple to learn. This run does unfortunately have a  short walk in to the launch zone through some spectacular rainforest. The Russel River has rapids in the range of grade 2-3 with maybe a few grade 4’s during the wet season.

All fun happens under the watchful eyes of highly certified river guides, and all raft operators hold the required official licensces and Insurance. So there is nothing to fret about if you want to have a go at some white water rafting while on your vacation in Queensland.

Have Room For More Adventures In Mini-Motorhomes

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

The advantages of having a mini-motorhome handy to take on a road trip can be many, especially when planning for a vacation where you want to create memories to last a lifetime. If you are a nature lover or just want your family to experience that environmental adventure with all the comforts of home nearby, then outdoor fun in mini-motorhomes are definitely for you.

If you are an environmental advocate who just loves to camp out and experience the great outdoors, yet the rest of your family does not share the enthusiasm, this may be an option that is worthwhile for the entire family to get a chance to enjoy themselves without really leaving home comforts behind. The fact that you do not have to book a hotel or make reservations to eat at that fancy restaurant is a trademark of a well organized financial budget that works to your advantage in many ways.

Mini recreational vehicles, or RVs, are completely packed with all the comforts of home that you can take with you on your cross country trip. Food and accommodations are no longer a problem as the rooms and kitchen are all cleverly arranged to take on up to six people within the limited living space. For those who are road trip crazy and just want life to be a bottomless pit of experiences, this is the perfect vehicle.

Mini RVs offer an advantage when it comes to parking space, as nobody really likes the inconvenience of finding a space for an overly large trailer that is no better than hauling an entire house along for the trip. These smaller vehicles can adapt to a variety of campgrounds and RV parks, from rustic to the resort-like options available. Being able to go anywhere and still have a place to cook your favorite dishes or specialties is the best option for anyone who prefers to have a literal home away from home experience, yet still be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of adventure.

The best part about having a motorhome on vacation trips is that your loved ones can bond better with you as they experience everything that is going on around them when you go from place to place. If you want to visit that coastal area with exotic marine life, you can take them along with you for an overall family educational experience, and then have a shower and a hot meal option ready for when you get back from swimming with the fish.

There are RV rental companies that guarantee well maintained units for your trip if you are still not quite settled on getting your own recreational vehicle for personal use whenever you like. Mini RVs have three classes A, B, and C, that all depend upon what their features are and what extras you may want to have during the trip. Renting out is a viable option for those who are also trying to find the right model for their own use when they can afford to purchase one.

No matter what type of family road trip you are planning, the mini-motorhome is ideal as it allows for more fun activities for you and your family, and having a place for them to sleep after the day’s adventures. Being able to leave home on a vacation trip, yet not quite leaving the comforts of home behind, is an ideal option for the financially conscious traveller. You can find general camping books or publications for those with special vacation interests, such as golfing, fishing or even casinos, to guide you.

Get The Best Navigation From Garmin Oregon 400t

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

No matter what kind of activity you do, may it be mountain biking, kayaking or any form of outdoor adventure, always bring with you the most trusted companion you will ever get, the 6.8 ounces GPS tracking device the Garmin Oregon 400t.

What makes this device so convenient is the fact that it operates using AA batteries and could easily fit in the palm of your hands. Most users would comment that it has revolutionized the way GPS has been designed considering it is one of the first handheld, touchscreen GPS navigation gadgets. The device only has one button for the power and users would need to use the screen for navigation. Even so, there are still a lot of people who are skeptical and are doubtyful. |Revolutionary as the devie may seem to be because of its touch screen capabilities, it still needs to answer one basic ye very important question. Will it be able to satisfy the needs of most GPS users?

How waterproof is the device? When users see how the AA batteries lock inside the device, they become not so sure if it could really keep water from going inside the gadget. However, the device has been tested to work even amidst days of kayaking or being used in water sports. In fact, the USB port is hidden by a rubber gasket, making sure that it also does not let any water in no matter how wild your water adventure becomes. This alone shows that the device can be used in any kinds of activities even in watersports.

One of the things that users could look forward to with the device is its touch screen keyboard. This feature has made Garmin Oregon 400t one of the easiest GPS devices to operate. There is no need for users to memorize different button functions as they will only have to press the image or icon of whatever it is that they need to get from the GPS. Thus, becoming acquainted with how the Oregon 400t should be used is much easier and faster compared to other devices as you do not need to spend a lot of time memorizing what buttons are supposed to do what kind of job. Most first-time users of GPS devices would surely find it very convenient to use the Oregon 400t since everything you need is on the screen. There are users who find it problematic if they find water or mud on their screen. This should not cause even an ounce of alarm as mud and water cannot do anything to affect the performance of this gadget. Even while you are wearing thick gloves, you can still work your way with this GPS. Naming saved waypoints will not be a bother anymore. Quite obviously, the way you used to name your waypoint using buttons has become a thing of the past as the Oregon 4500t has made sure that you do so with its touch screen capability.

A lot of people might find the 400t’s readability a bit challenging. No matter what kind of lighting condition there is, may it be in the shade or under the sun, its transflective color TFT display is not so ideal for viewing. It seems as if the previous models were much easier to view than this one. The problem, however, this kind of issue is not general and may vary on a case to case basis. In most cases, it is more on being acquainted with how a certain gadget relays the information it carries. Moreover, it would also depend on the kind of activity one is doing. It would be much easier for you to look for a better reading position when you are just hiking. However, it becomes extremely challenging to look for a suitable reading position if you are engaged in an activity that restricts your movements such as driving, biking or kayaking. Take careful measures when you are using the backlight. The backlight helps a lot in solving some problems regarding readability but it could also consume much power. However, if you have enough batteries to spare, you would see how remarkable the map looks amidst its 1:100k resolution. With the light, the map appears to become much better. The device even has some preloaded maps which could be displayed in 3D. However, it is impossible to transfer these maps from your Oregon 400t to your computer.

As a whole, although there are some setbacks with the Garmin Oregon 400t GPS, it has features that are very useful when you are set to go for an outdoor adventure. You just need to know how to make the device’s features work to your advantage. A device may be designed for perfection, yet it will still depend on the user if the device fulfills its design.
