We all love camping, there’s nothing like being outdoors and taking in the fresh air that surrounds us. It’s no wonder then, that camping has increased in popularity since the recession hit in early 2008. People are going back to the UK holiday, packing their bags and getting off on a great trip for little or no money. There’s only one thing you need before get along to a great holiday, and that’s a great tent!
The first thing to consider when buying a tent is simple -is it going to be a long term relationship, or is it simply for a one off trip? THere’s been a strange shift recently – people have been going towards a line of thought that says that tents should be throw away, that they should be cheap, cheerful, and “once only”. Personally I think this mindset is part of the tragedy of our age, a mindset that considers nothing valuable and everything as waste.
If I were to buy a tent today, I would not go for the cheapest “buy one get one free” offers from the internet or large supermarkets. I’d be looking long and hard for the best possible deal on a high quality tent! The real question that you need to consider is simple, how large do you want to go? Tents 6 man in size might be a bit large for most, but actually they’re great investments. They give you that additional bit of space and headroom for longer stay trips!
People never like to carry huge great tents, I can certainly see why, so 6 man tents are probably best for trips involving the car and a short walk to a stationary camp site. If you’re being more adventurous, you might want to consider small 2 man or 4 man coleman tents. They are fantastic quality and have an even more fantastic price.
All things said, it’s well worth spending as much as possible on your tent. And go for large!
