Although you could get gadget insurance for breakages abroad it will not cover you from the mistakes you can make from all of the browsing that can be done. Another thing is that each time that you text it is likely to cost you a lot of money too.
Taking the phone with you is simply not worth all of the hassle which is why it is important not to take it. If you are going on holiday then make sure you look into cheap car hire insurance because at least then if something happens you are certainly covered.
