Which Gap Year Volunteer Company Can I Trust?

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Whether you volunteer in Kenya working with animals, or volunteer in Tanzania working with HIV/AIDS victims, ”which company is best for me” is always going to be the most important question. There are plenty of gap year volunteering companies out there but unfortunately not all of them are who they say they are!

Everyone has heard horror stories of gap year companies charging through the roof for a terrible service. Ex volunteer sob stories are pasted all over gap year forums and blogs.

Volunteering for a gap year is in fact an invaluable experience and something well worth considering if you are an adventurous person. It gives you opportunities to experience and travel to places not only unheard of by most but almost impossible to visit unless you have connections. You are given the opportunity to participate in activities and ventures that cannot be offered in any other way. Opportunities to work with some of the poorest communities on the planet, helping them in ways which are truly staggering.

The rewards for you offering your services as a volunteer in Africa are immensly staggering. It gives you a sense of achievement and contribution insurpassable.

There are ways of digging out the reliable volunteer companies just by using the Internet. Something you may want to be aware of is that usually larger the company the less personal the experience.. Numerous large corporate companies are now only interested in your money and growth and have lost their sense of responsiblity for the volunteers. This is in turn something you should be well aware of when making the final decision on your placement.

Ensure you search gap year volunteering forums and see how people have rated companies. For verification on companies search volunteer directories, these usually give you an indication on which companies are trustworthy.

Make sure once you have chosen a gap year volunteering company you are completely content with them and their service as you will be spending your desired time abroad in their hands and this should be an experience to relish and not an absolute catastrophe.

We are a specialist organisation offering personal opportunites for you to volunteer in Africa. Our fortay is personal assistance and our careful handling of each of our volunteers. Volunteer in Kenya today for the experience of a lifetime!

Serengeti Tanzania Africa largest national park

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

If you are thinking of catching the February wildlife great migration in the Serengeti national park, now is the time to book. The Serengeti played host to our honeymoon and 40 of our friends from around the world. We timed it just right mid February we arrived.
It was amazing like a scene I had seen on a documentary the plains were full of gnu and zebra’s the sight was spectacular and the sounds amazing with lions roaring in the background. In the morning light we watched the mothers around us giving birth, with only a brief moment to give birth some mothers had calves half in and half out as they had to continue with the herd.
In an amazing sequence we watched as calves were born then encouraged to stand and stagger with the herd. With mixed feelings we watched animals being born, nurtured and encouraged to get up and move off with the herd while others were chased and eaten by stronger predators, not able to take our eyes away from the dreadful scene we knew this was the survival of the fitest.
We went deep into the Serengeti where the scenery was spectacular, but the biggest concentration of game we saw was near lake Ndutu. A vital part of the Serengeti and valuable to the wildlife that migrates through there is the stunning Lake Ndutu this gorgeous setting is surrounded by enormous acacia trees the lake itself is a long-awaited site to the thirsty animals.
We stayed two nights at Ndutu Safari Lodge which is quite small (I think we filled it) but was full of old style game lodge charm and is the only lodge where you can sit and watch the migration of the wildebeest as they give birth and feed on the grass. Soon it was time to turn homeward bound ourselves, it was then that we realised that leaving Ndutu safari lodge, the lake Ndutu and Serengeti was going to be the hardest thing we have done because at some point of our Tanzania safari, Africa had captured our hearts

Where can we go for the best Safari experience?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Although Safari holidays are a luxury, over the past 2 years prices have started to come down to a more reasonable value. Nowadays people have to try and work out where they can go to experience these holidays. The two most famous of the Safari locations in the world are Kenya and Tanzania. Although Tanzania and Kenya are famous for there safari locations, the more specific locations for these great safaris are the Masai Mara in Kenya west of Nairobi and the Serengeti in Tanzania.

In Kenya the Maasai Mara is known to the world to be the finest national park in Africa. If you like Big Cats, then this is probably the best location in the world to see them in the wild, the Lions that is. Big Cat Safari’s are extremely popular in Kenya. The Big cats in this area are some of the most spectacular animals in the world, it is very moving when you seem them in the wild. There is also a yearly event that takes place in Kenya, called the Circular Migration. If tourists can time their Kenya holidays just right, then they can get the chance to see almost 2 million herbivores travel through the Masai Mara and into the Serengeti. This Safari is probably one of the most exhilarating, and provides tourists with many unforgettable experiences and plenty of photo opportunities.

The Serengeti national park is probably the second best known of all the Africa Safaris and the area it covers is considerably more than the Masai Mara. The Serengeti also has a large amount of woodland, making the animals that survive here a lot more diverse. The Serengeti is similar to the Masai Mara in the sense that the Circular Migration passes through here, however the Serengeti is much larger. Many holidays or Safaris in the Serengeti can be twinned with holidays to Zanzibar as well, also called the spice island. Although we can all take some nice pictures of all the animals, we do have to respect the fact they are wild, although the elephant seems quite tame, it can actually become very protective over young ones or family!

If you haven’t decided on one of these, personally I recommend Kenya holidays, although Tanzania holidays are great, the Maasai Mara has a lot to offer any tourist. Christmas Holidays are becoming increasingly popular, especially on Safari holidays.

Decisions, Decisions, Real Diving or the Seal life Centre?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Since the day that we could contain animals in these water tanks we have been going to see them. However slowly diving holidays have become even more popular than ever.

So why would you go to a sea life centre? What is so special about these places, well they give us the chance to see some truly amazing marine animals. After all whats the point in having these Sea Life Centres if were not going to be visiting them. Not to mention that the cost of this is unrecognisable compared to a flight across the world to Egypt. What’s the point in going on a diving holiday if you haven’t really thought about it.

There is a common misconception that these diving holidays are extremely expensive and only for those that can afford to embark on these luxury holidays. However these holidays are now really quite cheap. They are ideal for teaching people about the natural world and how things need to be kept as they are now. Come on your on holiday as well, that’s a great reason. So there is plenty of sun and sand, a few drinks and a dive in the ocean, preferably before drinks.

So although you can go straight to the sea life centre without travelling that far, do you really get that much of an experience out of it. These diving holidays do really give people the opportunity to experience something that a lot of others won’t do and not to mention you will probably have the most amazing time of your life. If you want to spice things up a little more then you can go shark diving, obviously for the more adventurous of the lot of you though, but these holidays are becoming extremely popular.
