ABC’s On Brakes Maintenance

Monday, April 4th, 2011

A very important component your car has to be working properly are your brakes. Brakes are able to give your car the ability to stop so that you can properly drive your car. Think how bad it will be if there are no brakes and you are traveling at great speeds. The brakes are there to make sure that you are kept safe and it plays a significant role when it comes to maintaining it. It is therefore very important that your brakes are always working properly, but even with proper maintenance, there is still a chance that your brakes may break down. We will provide you with some very important information when it comes to the maintenance and repair of your brakes.

To start with, it is important that you know what your braking system is composed of. Your brakes are made up of two primary parts which are the brake pads and the brake rotors. When you press on the brake pedal, a mechanism clamps on the caliper on the two brake pads on your rotor disc, which will help in stopping the car quickly. So basically the main focus when there are problems on your car are on those two components. But there are more components to the braking system, which includes the master cylinder, but they usually last for a long time. We provide this information to clients of our auto repair shop.

Second, you should know when to replace your brakes. One good way of determining if there are any problems with your brakes is if you hear some screeching coming from your tires. This indicates worn out brake pads because it is metal to metal contact between the rotor and the caliper. This is simply just replacing your brake pads, and should not cost you a lot. And you may also encounter some difficulty in stopping when pressing on the pedal, which could mean some air bubbles got into the braking system. You would have to have your system bled so that the air bubbles would be taken of the line. This is best left for technicians who know how to do it. We also try to help with the education by explaining what we are doing in our San Diego smog check service.

Third, make sure that you do proper maintenance on your brakes. A good way to make sure that you maintain the integrity of your brake is to replenish the brake fluid regularly. It would also be a good idea if you do not speed to much, because at higher speeds, it would require more on your brakes. You would do well to avoid any sudden stops. This will not only wear your brakes faster, it is also increasing the chance of having an accident. We specialize in customer service to clients of our San Diego brake shop.

There you have the things you need to check out to make sure your brakes are working properly. Making sure that proper maintenance is done on your braking system will help you avoid incurring any huge repair bills in the future.

Oil Change Made Easy

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Car engines perform best when their oil is changed regularly. Your engine system depends on your motor oil. Motor oil carries hazardous engine deposits away from the engine. Your car engine filter acts by removing all the bad elements that may cause harm to the engine itself. This acts as a main defense preventing engine abrasion and deposits. Make sure that you also clean or even change the filter once you change engine oil. This article will teach you a thing or two about changing your engine oil.

Number one is the spin-on filter. The spin-on oil filter has been the standard in oil filters for years. The spin-on filters are fashioned inside a metal can which unscrews from a mount on the engine. This makes installation and replacement during an oil change much easier and cleaner than the cartridge filters. This is the most common one we do in our Amsoil dealers company.

Second, we have your cartridge type oil filter. This is more budget-friendly because of the fewer materials that they use but can cause oil drips when replacing or cleaning it. This can be hazardous, as you never know where the oil drippings may end up. Cartridge type oil filters also do not last as long as spin-on filters. In between your change oils you need to change the filter twice. This is the next most common request in regards to oil changes in our Synthetic motorcycle oil shop.

Number three, the materials of your oil filter. Your oil filter materials will make or break the effectivity of your filter. These are the criteria for your filter: single-pass efficiency, multi-pass efficiency and micron rating. All of these things will make sure that your lubricant is filtered properly to make sure your engine stays clean. This is something we do as well for people who want high performance cars from our Amsoil synthetic lubricants service.

So there you have some of the reasons why it is important to change the filter when getting an oil change. Keep in mind that the right filter is as important as choosing the right oil. Pick one that will help lengthen the service life of your car.

Directions on how to avoid problems in your transmission

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

The transmission is one of the most important parts of your car. Not only is it one of the most important it is also one of the most expensive. It is an expensive part to repair or replace.  So it is one of those parts of your car you want to make sure you take care of.If you will not then it can cost you a lot of money. So, here are now some of the few tips to take care of your transmission.

One of the minor things that causes problems for your transmission is because people do not check their transmission fluids.  Not having enough transmission fluid causes so much damage that I see it happen all the time in my Vista auto repair shop. What’s worse is it could have been avoided.A person just needs to make sure that his/her car’s fluid levels is always checked. If it is low in level then go and fill it up.It is easy to do and can also save you a lot of money.

Second thing you want to do is make sure to not shift gears while moving. You would be surprised at the number of cars that come in damaged in my Oceanside transmission repair shop from this problem alone.  Don’t get impatient and shift gears while moving. That is another thing that is very easy to do. But not doing it will damage your transmission little by little.

Finally, do not let your transmission overheat. An overheated transmission will be damaged more easily.  I always advise my La Costa auto repair clients to make sure to add a coolant type of additive to their fluid.  This helps the transmission run cooler.

If a person does these things then his/her car’s transmission would last longer.  Failure to do so will hurt them in the pocket books.  With these things being so easy to do it shouldn’t be a problem.

How to get more out of your transmission

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

One of the most costly repairs on a car is the transmission. It is one of those things you hate hearing about in regards to repairing your car.Naturally most people will want to know some ways to get it to last longer.Or they really are wanting to know can it be done. Like anything it is possible. You can ensure that it can last longer by being sure to care for it.  But here are more specific things you can do to make your transmission last longer.

First thing you have to do without fail is keep the proper levels of fluid.  Just like everything in your car you want to keep your fluids right. But in regards to your transmission it is imperative if you truly want it to last longer.  Whenever a client takes there car in to the La Costa transmission repair shop I run I always check their fluids.  I also recommend they always keep a close eye on their fluid levels. If they try to operate their car with low fluid levels they are going to ruin their transmission.Or it isn’t going to last the length of time they want.

Second thing to be aware of is that heat can harm your transmission.  So what you want to do is make sure you keep your transmission cool.  One of the best ways to do that is to add transmission cooler. You can find some easily at an auto parts dealer.  Of course when clients come and bring their cars in to our Vista auto repair shop we add it in also. This gives the transmission the ability to run cooler.

Lastly here is one that is easy.Don’t ever try to shift the gears while your car is moving.  You will be surprised at the number of people who ruin their cars by shifting gears while the car is moving.  I am not because we see it all the time in our La Costa auto repair shop.People will have their cars brought in and they will have ruined transmissions because of this very thing.
