Look For A Relaxing Holiday - Here Are Some Options

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

9 out of 10 people use their holidays to escape their daily lives for a bit and achieve a state of relaxation. Most only get a few weeks a year to enjoy their holidays so they choose the chilled out variety. Of course everyone finds different types of holidays relaxing, from a luxury cruise to trekking the rain forest.  Here are some of the more popular choices though.

Beach holidays.Almost since modern holidays began, the beach vacation has the been the getaway of choice for anyone seeking a bit of R & R. This is most likely the case due to the fact you don’t really have to stand up very much, you can sip lovely drinks and top up your tan at the same time.  Some people however get stressed and flustered by hot weather, so whilst it is clearly a popular choice, it is not hands down winner.

Cruises. Cruise holidays, especially river cruise holidays are another popular choice for those seeking a relaxing time. There is everything you could possibly need on a cruise ship within a five minute walk, so you never need to worry about traveling around or forgetting to take anything with you. Also, you can get to experience some of the finest sites that earth has to offer without actually having to put any effort into getting there. Also with cruises such as Oceania cruises, you’ve got a high chance of enjoying some great sun as well so you don’t miss out here either.

City Breaks. This type of holiday may not immediately conjuror up images of relaxation for you. However, you’d be amazed at how many people enter the mode of being a tourist. This is a very strange phenomenon where tourists stroll around the city in a trance like state, studying the architecture and watching the people go about their business. The effect of this tends to cause people to become very relaxed and enter a happy-go-lucky state of mind, where they can really enjoy themselves and release any stress built up.

Is it good for your health to go on a Caribbean holiday?

Is sea air actually that go for you, everyone seems to have the concept that sea air is great fresh air, but how good is it? Let’s start with the good points to going on a beach holiday, and why it is good for your health, then we can make a decision later…

What’s better than going to the beach and having a good swim? Getting your heart to work hard is why swimming is great, all your muscles work together to get the body moving, you can get a strong heart beat too. While you are swimming you are making your heart work harder, this in turn, helps blood flow around the body and you can do all this while having fun. Coupled with swimming in the sea is the sea water itself, sea water is very good for your skin. Permanent scars and acne can be cleared up with the high salt levels in the sea.

The sun is also good for your skin (in small doses). Skin cancer and multiple sclerosis can both be reduced in risk with vitamin D which is supplied by sunlight.

If anything the one thing we can all agree on (as long as you have a good holiday) is that holidays are best for reducing stress levels. Heart disease and skin problems are a cause of large amounts of stress. Stress can cause health problems, and getting this under control could really help. Being able to go on luxury holidays by the beach will relieve stress will help you to clear your head as well.

Now for the bad points, let’s say you were looking at Caribbean holidays for example. There are sandy beaches everywhere, and nothing you can do to avoid them. Getting away from the sun wont be an option. The sun isnt always good for you, in high amounts it can be very bad for you. We have all been there, stayed in the sun too long and noticed we are shedding skin or glowing lobster red, the skin is just getting cooked.

In recent studies it has been shown that the sea air isn’t actually that brilliant for you. Although the air is cleaner than that, say in a city, it contains some interesting substances. Try not to panic it wont kill you, its just that it isnt that great for you. There is a substance that is released by animals in the sea called DMS (dimethyl sulphide), this substance floats around the sea and the beaches and irritates the eyes and nose, it also has that smell you detect when your at the seaside. Nitryl chloride is a second substance that was found by the beach and in the sea, it is a respiratory inhibitor, which means we find it hard to breathe but it is reduced in amount by the sun.

So are beach holidays good for you? If you do some exercise and look after yourself then yes it is very good for you especially seeing as it relieves stress. Nobody is going to stop going to the beach or going on holiday, the bad points aren’t bad enough yet. So if you planning weddings abroad then go for it, swim in the sea and enjoy the sun.
