Things to do on holiday while staying at Lanzarote hotels

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Lanzarote, a beautiful Spanish island located in the eastern part of the Canary Islands chain, offers amazing volcanic mountains as well as expansive beaches. Its stunning natural beauty is complemented by the many tourist activities and amenities on offer, from the restaurants, shops and clubs to top Lanzarote hotels. Since the island is designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve protected site, there are numerous restrictions on the style and amount of development on the island. This means that no high-rise apartments or condominiums are on the island and billboard advertising is not allowed. As a result, many Lanzarote hotels and villas tend to be more natural developments with enhanced privacy. In fact, many of the hotels offer so many amenities and such beautiful beaches that some visitors decide not to leave their resort. If you do decide to venture out, however, there are plenty of sights worth seeing.

Timanfaya National Park

Lanzarote’s Montañas del Fuego - or Fire Mountains - give this region of the island an almost martian look since the landscape is barren and desert-like. Created by a series of volcanic eruptions in the 18th and 19th centuries, the mountains are an iconic and important part of the island. There are plenty of rare plant species to marvel at in this fertile area and guided tours around the park will help you to make the most of the region - there is even the chance to view the landscape while riding a camel.

Jameos del Agua

This extensive network of caves, created by a volcanic eruption three or four thousand years ago, have been turned into a complex with a swimming pool, auditorium, restaurants, and gardens that look like a natural part of the surrounding caves.

Lanzarote Aquarium

This large, interactive aquarium, allows holidaymakers to get up close and personal with a large selection of Canary Islands marine life. Visitors can see many creatures native to the island chain including warm water sharks and can interact with some of the creatures in the three touching-pools.

Castillo de San Jose

This fortress has an intriguing history, having been originally built to help protect the island from pirate attacks in 1799, and now it has been turned into a modern art gallery and restaurant with beautiful views of the harbour.

With so many sights on offer, alongside the many restaurants, bars, shops and cheap hotels, your island holiday experience is guarenteed to be one to remember.

Plenty of choice on holiday with hotels in Tenerife

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Popular holiday destination the Canary Islands is located in the Atlantic, just off the coast of Africa, and is home to the beautiful island of Tenerife. The beauty starts with Mount Teide - the highest peak in Spain and the third largest volcano in the world - before moving out into the forests of Teide national park and on to the stunning coastline. A favourable sub-tropical climate allows Tenerife to offer a full range of exotic flora and fauna. The island also has plenty to offer in the shape of tourist facilities and amenities, from restaurants and cafes to bars, nightclubs and hotels.

When you’ve decided on Tenerife as your next island paradise destination, the next step is to find accommodation. Hotels of all star ratings and price ranges are available. The island has everything from 5-star luxury resorts to smaller hotels with fewer amenities for those vacationing on a tighter budget - however, almost all of the hotels in Tenerife have a swimming pool and restaurant, plus telephones and televisions in each room, as well as air-conditioning.

A number of the hotels in Tenerife have their own luxury spas onsite, offering more to help you relax on your holiday than just beaches and ocean alone.  One example is the Abama Golf and Spa|One such hotel is the Abama Golf and Spa. This luxury 5 star resort describes itself as a “paradise of sensations”. It is on the west coast of Tenerife in the Guia de Isora. This hotel has several different room and suite options, offering rooms with balconies in the Citadel or spacious suites with private terraces in the Villa. The Abama is located at the top of a cliff with stunning views of the Atlantic. Guests can also take advantage of the hotel’s own secluded beach.

There is a group of luxury hotels in Tenerife located on the beach at Playa del Camison, which has been referred to as an “oasis of sophistication”. The names of these hotels even exude luxury and class: the Sir Anthony Palace, Cleopatra Palace, Marco Antonio Palace, Mediterranean Palace and Julio Cesar Palace hotels.

This particular collection of hotels may fall outside the average budget for a holiday, but happily there are plenty of more affordable options to choose from. The Tamaimo Tropical, for example, is an aparthotel with fully equipped kitchens, 2 pools for adults and two for the kids, an onsite buffet restaurant, and prices that are likely to be more family-friendly. There are plenty of other hotels in Tenerife just like this one so you won’t go short of options, whatever your situation or your finances may be.
