Things to do on holiday while staying at Lanzarote hotels

Lanzarote, a beautiful Spanish island located in the eastern part of the Canary Islands chain, offers amazing volcanic mountains as well as expansive beaches. Its stunning natural beauty is complemented by the many tourist activities and amenities on offer, from the restaurants, shops and clubs to top Lanzarote hotels. Since the island is designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve protected site, there are numerous restrictions on the style and amount of development on the island. Timanfaya National Park

Lanzarote’s Montañas del Fuego - or Fire Mountains - give this region of the island an almost martian look since the landscape is barren and desert-like. Created by a series of volcanic eruptions in the 18th and 19th centuries, the mountains are an iconic and important part of the island. There are plenty of rare plant species to marvel at in this fertile area and guided tours around the park will help you to make the most of the region - there is even the chance to view the landscape while riding a camel.

Jameos del Agua

This extensive network of caves, created by a volcanic eruption three or four thousand years ago, have been turned into a complex with a swimming pool, auditorium, restaurants, and gardens that look like a natural part of the surrounding caves.

Lanzarote Aquarium

This large, interactive aquarium, allows holidaymakers to get up close and personal with a large selection of Canary Islands marine life. Visitors can see many creatures native to the island chain including warm water sharks and can interact with some of the creatures in the three touching-pools.

Castillo de San Jose

This fortress has an intriguing history, having been originally built to help protect the island from pirate attacks in 1799, and now it has been turned into a modern art gallery and restaurant with beautiful views of the harbour.

With so many sights on offer, alongside the many restaurants, bars, shops and cheap hotels, your island holiday experience is guarenteed to be one to remember.

Popular holiday destination the Canary Islands is located in the Atlantic, just off the coast of Africa, and is home to the beautiful island of Tenerife.
