Whilst on holiday one of the best luxuries is eating out every night. Krakow is a great choice for an affordable city break with some very cheap flights and incredible restaurants. Poland may be better known for vodka than Michelin-star dining, but Krakow is home to a huge range of restaurants that serve up everything from authentic Polish yoghurt soup to veal with a French-inspired velouté. With such a huge variety on offer, there is something for everyone.
There are plenty of cheap eateries around the city, but if you want good quality Polish dishes for next to nothing, then go to the Polakowski self service cafe. This traditional restaurant serves authentic Polish dishes and has some of the most unique decorations of any restaurant in Poland. For a traditional Polish dining experience, try the yoghurt soup followed by cabbage leaves stuffed with rice and meat. It might not be fine dining but it’s unfussy, tasty and cheap.
For those that have saved money on cheap flights, you can go all out when you get to Krakow. If you’re looking for a special dinner then Pod Roza is a lovely hotel restaurant with a menu to suit every taste. The glass roof is perfect for seeing the stars on a clear, dark night so it could be a truly romantic destination. It is the puddings that Pod Roza is internationally known for, so if you’re feeling peckish come here for some unbelievably delicious cake and coffee.
Hotel Grodek in Old Town is home to what is considered one of the best restaurants in the city – Cul de Sac. It is at the top end of the budget scale but if you visit for a last-night treat then you’re sure to feel it really is worth it. A three course meal with wine is likely to cost around £35 a head which is fantastic value given the quality of food and the setting. Restaurants in Krakow are proof that cheap holidays don’t have to mean compromising on meals out so for a surprising food-filled break, consider Poland’s beautiful second city.
