This Land Of Milk And Honeymoon

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Spring is here and that can only mean one thing, the Wedding Season!Whether you’re going to travel abroad for your ceremony or you’re going to get wedded here and travel abroad for your honeymoon you’ll want to stay somewhere luxurious.

Used to be that a girl wanted a church wedding, these days though it’s becoming more popular to tie the knot on a beach somewhere tropical, white sand instead of confetti and palm trees instead of chapel bells. However, if you are getting married at home the glamour of the wedding of Prince William to the now Princess Katherine has forced every bride and groom to be to up their game when it comes to lavishness of their luxury holiday.

For many taking a flight out to the Bahamas with your family in tow is something of a pipe dream so what are the options if you have champagne tastes but a lemonade budget?

Laterooms.com has found in a survey that they carried out recently that 82% of Britons are feeling the pinch and won’t be able to pay for the honeymoon they want while 76% say they are going to take shorter breaks. Most people want to have a long honeymoon but 12% say they would settle for a break away for a week or less, 45% would take a ten day trip. So, while the dream would be to spend 14 nights on luxury tailor made holidays on a Caribbean island soaking up the sun and rum punches the reality is more likely to be a week somewhere in Europe, at least it will be for 54% of honeymooners.

The money issue isn’t the only facet that is keeping people from taking two weeks or more away, the fact that people can’t be away from work for that long is a major consideration too. 54% say that they simply aren’t able get that kind of time off for things like luxury cruises.

Lynda Matthews of Laterooms.com said that she felt the days of the exotic honeymoon “to the Caribbean are behind us with many Brits opting for better value breaks to celebrate their honeymoon period.”

The Many Reasons To Marry Abroad

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

A close friend of mine once asked her father, jokingly, about wedding arrangements for her and her then boyfriend. He told her he’d happily put down £20,000 if she was willing to elope. He was certainly objecting more to the hassle of organising the wedding than to the expense, but there was an element of incredulity about just how much can be spent on such a one-shot lifetime event. Whilst he was probably bemoaning the enormous amount of organisation, the speeches to be written and the hideous family politics, he didn’t need to promise quite as much money either. Weddings abroad are getting more and more popular as domestic weddings get more and more expensive. £20,000 could be getting you so much more, in an environment where it’s a lot less likely to rain too!.

Savings can be made in several ways, logistically and in terms of cost. You’re flying out for the wedding, so it makes sense to stay for the honeymoon. One of the biggest complications with marrying abroad is having a ceremony that allows your family to attend. By fixing the date well in advance, this headache can be avoided to a significant degree if everyone agrees to roll it into their usual holiday. You can of course pay for your guests to attend, though this can quickly contradict the cost imperative: still, some locations do offer guest accommodation in your wedding package. There is however, no real perfect solution, and you will inevitably have to choose between your dream wedding location and missing out on having someone close at your wedding.

If bureaucratic hassle is one of your main objections to marriage (or you just want to elope and have done with it), Caribbean holidays don’t require you to be resident on the islands, and usually require very little paperwork. Las Vegas is the old standby of course, but Hawaii, Malta and Cyprus are also good locations. Many exotic wedding locations are tourist islands, but the continental tropics offer an unconfined alternative. Thailand holidays are very accommodating to foreign weddings, both in the western style and in a way that resonates with the rich cultural heritage of the nation. Koh Pha Ngan is the premier island location, only 30 miles from mainland Thailand.
