Just over a month in the past, my boyfriend and I made a decision to go to the gorgeous metropolis of Edinburgh for our 5 12 months anniversary. We reside in Dorset, so we didn’t wish to spend the whole time travelling. To make the journey easier on ourselves, we decided to fly there, and used a travel agent to organise the week long holiday. Imagine my surprise when I saw an additional £27.50 on the quote for journey insurance coverage! We had been only going to Edinburgh, not Pittsburgh!

I used to be offended that they thought we might be so silly as to get journey insurance coverage for a trip inside the UK. They’ve hospitals in Edinburgh, and it really isn’t very far away. But afterward, over a cup of scorching chocolate, I put some extra thought into it.

Vacation disasters can happen anywhere, not simply abroad - so I made a list of what may feasibly go incorrect:

No such luck, only ‘personal possessions’ that were listed on the policy counted, so the whole lot in the baggage wouldn’t be lined, and I’d have to make a phone name to get the camera included on the policy.

I remembered something else – we had over 4 years of no claims discount on our House & Contents policy. If we had to make a claim, we’d lose the no claims discount. Our premiums would go sky high after that, they had been already high sufficient as it’s, at £305 a year. I realised that I actually ought to search for a cheaper Residence & Contents coverage at the time of renewal, and promised myself to try this in future.

After the investigations I had made to date, I realised that £27.50 for a travel policy wasn’t actually too bad.

I’ve by no means been one to rest on my laurels though. I might have determined that travel insurance was a good suggestion, but it surely didn’t mean I used to be willing to accept the value quoted by the journey agent.

I went on-line to get some extra quotes. The first or three sites I looked at couldn’t give me what I wished, however 10 minutes later, I struck gold. I discovered a single journey travel policy for the UK, and it was a great £10 cheaper than the journey agent’s quote.

I read the small print, no point signing up without knowing all of the facts. I used to be pleased to see all the points I had listed had been covered.

Now the exclusions – was it all too good to be true in any case? Phew – no need to worry. If the vacation was lower than 25 miles from our residence deal with, or for less than 2 nights, then we wouldn’t be covered. No problem there. Otherwise the one draw back was that we’d have to pay the £30 if we needed to make a claim. Honest enough.

Pleased with the coverage I’d found and with the choice that we did need travel insurance in any case, I bought the travel insurance coverage coverage there and then.
