Summer is such a wonderful occasion. I was blessed enough to live several months in the Yucatan Peninsula area this summer. It was definitely really a blessing to be there. I spent the majority of my stay in a little beach/jungle municipality called Tulum. Tulum is situated within the Riviera Maya about ninety miles south of Cancun and about forty miles from Playa Del Carmen. It is a fairly easy cruise when you rent a car and take freeway 307 all of the way. You may also get on a bus for a very affordable price. A taxi ride wouldn’t even be too outrageous either, but by utilizing the bus or renting a car you would absolutely be saving money. By far, my most favorite feature about Tulum relates to the people. There are countless authentic people in Tulum, especially the area’s Mayans and Mexicans who live there. An additional impressive attribute is the beaches. Tulum has among the most astonishing seashores within the globe. You probably didn’t know that at least one of the Corona commercials with the couple on the beach was recorded here. Yes, it really is as beautiful as it looks on TV and yes, you ought to fly down for a stay!
The first beach I traveled to instantly moved to the top of my best beach experiences list. I had never experienced anything like it, it was so perfect and relaxing . My acquaintances who are permanent residents around here call it Turtle beach, however the given designation is Xcacel (esh-ca-sell). It can be only a ten minute ride north of Tulum on highway 307. Not surprisingly they labeled it turtle beach for the reason that should you go in the dark while in the the first part of to mid summertime you will actually have the opportunity to observe real live sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand. Of course, you must stay a safe distance away from the turtle, because you don’t want to scare it. You’ll want to choose an evening when the moon and stars are shining bright because this process only happens at night and the use of any lights or flashlights to observe the turtle will scare the creature.
If all your lucky stars align, you may be in for an experience unlike any you’ll ever witness in nature. On a beautiful evening, towards the end of my stay, I was actually blessed to be able to see a real life sea turtle laying eggs on the beach. It was a moment unlike any other I’ve ever had. With the calm waves splashing in the background and the full moon it made for a very amazing moment.
If you go to Turtle Beach in the daytime, the first thing you’ll notice is there are very few people at this beach. Rarely, if ever, do they have more than 50-100 people in a 3/4 mile stretch of beach. The small number of people makes this almost like your own slice of paradise. The waves are very small and so you can go into the 75-80 degree water and just relax with a beverage or play with the kids without having waves constantly smacking you. All the large waves are broken up miles from shore because of the Coral Reef which dominates the coastline. As a result of the Coral Reef, this is an ideal area for Scuba and Snorkeling. There are dozens of professional diving tours available at affordable rates in Tulum. I plan on trying scuba diving next time I’m able to visit.
I certainly hope that time flies between then and now. The whole Yucatan is such a beautiful place, if you want to stay in Cancun or Playa del Carmen you’ll have a great time too. There are many Playa del Carmen hotels and other Yucatan hotels that can provide you with everything you’re looking for. If affordability and personalized service are more your style, Tulum hotels are the way to go. Personally I recommend Tulum, Mexico if you want a more genuine Mayan/Mexican experience. With plenty of amazing lodging accommodations, restaurants, resorts, and beach clubs, and more open spaces, you may find that Tulum is just the vacation you’re looking for.
